Jeff Pulver Shares His Thoughts on Facebook At SMMOC

This past Saturday, I had the good fortune to sit beside Jeff Pulver at the Social Media Mastermind Orange County (better known as #SMMOC)  meetup.  Jeff Pulver is one of the world’s leading voices regarding real time communication.  He’s an internet entrepreneur, the co-founder of Vonage, the VoIP provider, and the heart and soul behind the 140conf that he established.  I’m fascinated by Jeff’s international perspective on real time communication and how it’s impacting our culture and the global human experience.  He’s one to watch.

One of the wonderful things about the SMMOC meetings is the ability for attendees to bring in topics that they would like to discuss as they relate to social media.  The never-ending changes in the Facebook user interface was one of those subjects that came up.

Jeff certainly has some things to add to the “changing rules of engagement” conversation.  But one of his insights is particularly relevant for the real estate community.  Building an online presence has become a critical part of the long term success for an agent and building that presence in an environment that consistently changes their rules is certainly risky business.

Pulver states, “I think you’re better off being in an environment where you control everything, where you don’t have to worry about user interface changes, where ultimately it’s your designs that matter.”

You should know, this video is published with Jeff’s blessing.  ;)
